should you crack windows during tornadoes to help equalize equalize pressure to prevent the house from imploding? This statement is false, and the truth of staying safe is the very opposite, to have windows completely sealed (not cracked) and closed. Scientists thought that during hurricanes and tornadoes, that the air pressure was to high inside therefore making the pressure outside a lot lower, so they thought that Opening windows would equalize the pressure, but they were wrong, you should never open windows during a hurricane or Tornado.
     Opening windows lets in the high pressure air which must escape some way causing roofs to fly off and even exploding homes this was called the "Exploding house theory", so remember whatever comes in must go out.  Since scientist theorized that the air pressure was lower outside than inside, the decided that opening the windows was a good Idea to equalize the pressure but the wind and gusts are the main problem, they come in and the pressure increases causing the house to get destroyed through their weak point.    If video does not work:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUF92xZlphA

       You should keep windows tightly shut so you do not make the mistake so many people did and here are some tips to help you: Go into the basement, you must be in a  safe room without any debris and  just wait for the storm to pass.
